Our Latest Charity Mission to Gračanica makes Serbian Headlines

Gainioz blog

Some of Serbia’s leading news outlets had good news to report when funds collected at St Sava’s Ball in London were distributed to some 46 vulnerable families in Kosovo.

In what has become an annual pilgrimage, the foundation’s chair Dr Dejan Maras enjoyed the warm greetings of the community at the Gracanica. At the awards ceremony Serbian daily Dnevnik emphasised that the Njegos Foundation targeted their aid to families with four or more children. These families had been awarded the Order of the Mother of Jugovic by the Serbian Orthodox Church according to Gracanica Radio.

Kosovo Online reported the words of Metropolitan Teodosije who recognised these mothers who had selflessly given birth and raised so many children. Despite thousands of kilometres separating London from Gracаnica in the Serbian province of Kosovo and Metohija, the visit by the good doctor demonstrated how close our thoughts are.  K1 Info called the scenes ‘touching’ with Maras noting that the decision of families to stay in such difficult living conditions was a show of strength and praised their courage.

This year’s St Sava’s Ball raised a record breaking £21,500.  Tickets for next year’s sumptuous gala are available now.
