Prince Philip and Princess Danica attend charity ball in London

Gainioz blog

Prince Philip of Serbia is following in his father’s footsteps to improve conditions in Serbia. With his wife, Princess Danica, he attended the St. Sava Ball in London on Monday this week.

The ball was attended by 220 people and managed to raise £13,042.00 which will be equally distributed to help children in Kosovo and Montenegro. The tradition of a St. Sava’s ball takes place every second Saturday of February. Special guests in addition to HRH Prince Philip and HRH Princess Danica included Bishop Teodosija and the Serbian Ambassador to Britain.

Dr Dejan Maraš, the principal organiser of the ball, told the newspaper Britic: “Seeing how St Sava’s Ball has been triumphantly celebrated in Vienna for the past 23 years, for some time I had asked myself why don’t we hold such an event in London, especially considering that unofficial data suggests around 70,000 Serbs live here and many are very successful people in all professions”.

The Serbian royal family has a long tradition of attending such events to raise money for a good cause. This year, too, the Serbian royals will be holding a charity gala in London. Crown Princess Katherine’s charity organisation “Lifeline” has made this an annual tradition. Funds raised during the dinner will go towards supplying children’s hospitals in Serbia with medical equipment. If you want to read more about the charity, you can do so here.

The Serbian royal couple have been working for many years to improve the situation of those who need extra support. Last year, they took part in several special events including a charity evening and auction at the University Women’s Club in London to raise funds and awareness for the treatment of children with disabilities in Serbia.

In 1993, Crown Princess Katherine founded the Lifeline Humanitarian Organisation which currently has offices in Chicago, New York, Toronto, London and Athens. This organisation, together with the HRH Crown Princess Katherine Foundation, works to collect money for medical equipment that has been delivered to numerous hospitals in Serbia.
